Auto Registration
Driver's License Requirements: Connecticut residents just obtain a
valid license within 30 days of moving into the state even if they hold a valid license
from another state.
You must be at least 16 years of age and have completed an approved driver education
course was at completed, one must be at least 18 years of age to be eligible Written,
vision, and road tests are required. For those holding a valid license from another state,
a vision test is the only testing requirement.
Bring the following items with you when applying:
- Proof of name and date of birth.
- If under 18, written parental consent and proof of completion of approved driver
education course.
- Proof of car registration.
- No-fault insurance card.
Car insurance: A current Connecticut no-fault auto insurance
Identification card must be presented at the time of registration and must be kept in the
vehicle.
Vehicle inspection: The inspection must take place with 60 days of
moving into the the state. Out-of-state vehicles not previously registered in Connecticut
are required by law to have an out-of-state inspection before registration can be issued.
Vehicle Registration: All motor vehicles or trailers operated on
Connecticut state highways must be registered by the owner with the state of Connecticut.
The registration must be kept in the vehicle.
Voter Requirements: You must meet the following criteria to be
eligible to vote:
- Be a United States citizen
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a bona fide resident of a town Registration takes place at the Town Hall in your
community.
